Kick off!

As soon as I can get organized and read the evaluations my students made of my site suggestions, I'll post the links with as much information as possible without slowing things down too much. Later I'll go back and include more of the comments, suggestions and ratings. Write me if you have any problems using any of the sites, or if you want to make any other suggestions.
In the meantime, patience with the blog and persistence with your studies.
Some Reading sites to get you started.

Penguin Dossiers – Good for learners at a low intermediate level. Lots of articles to choose from, some with audio as well and all of them have a Factsheet (if you love doing exercises) – the answers are there at the end.

BBC Learning English – Plenty of intermediate material here. Check out the News English section which has simplified articles with explantions of key vocabulary – plus you can listen to the article.

Voice of America News (Special English) - The stories from this site are all current but have been simplified to and Intermediate level. (read explanation); most have audio which is slower than normal.

Breaking News English and Learning Resources (form Literacy.net.org) - Both of these sites offer news stories with audio and lots of exercises if that's what you like. I prefer the navigation of Learning Resources but one is more up-to-date. Intermediate and Higher.

Speak Up Magazine – Written for Brazilians, usually Intermediate and higher. Stories have introductions in Portuguese so you can decide if it is intersting to read. Key vocabulary is numbered – use the Babylon translator to look up words. Some articles also have audio.

Damn Interesting – I love this site. More challenging than the previous sites, but the stories are damn intersting! No audio. Upper Intermediate.

NPR (National Public Radio) – Lots of interesting things to listen to and read here. Some of the articles only have audio with a brief written introduction. Written for an American audience. Upper Intermediate.
